Past Life Regression and Clautrophobia

Past life Regression, a process of retrieving memories of previous lives or incarnations, which by reliving or discovering previous experiences or traumas, can benefit those who are looking for reasons for their ailments or problems in this life, and which cannot be medically explained. More often than not, the reasons can be traced back to a past life experience. Past life Regression can also be applied to psychological ailments such as unexplained fears, phobias and mental blocks towards certain things in life. For example, a person who in this life has no logical or scientific reason for claustrophobia, may find answers which link back to a trauma from a particular past life.

Sheila (name changed) came to me afflicted with claustrophobia. She would feel extremely uncomfortable when being in a closed space. If she was in a room, and heard a door locked, she would panic which made it very difficult to have a locked door in hotel rooms, as also with being in an elevator, or flying.

During her Past Life Regression, she discovered that she was at the age of 50 mistakenly declared as dead by the doctors and buried alive.

By releasing this traumatic event experienced  from her memory she experienced a dramatic and total release of the symptoms enough to experience a catharsis or a healing.

Past Life Regression and it's Positive Impact

Past Life Regression is now also being applied to some newer areas that are quite exciting and rewarding. Rather than going after traumatic or troubling memories, they focus on positive experiences such as ….

1.     Accessing strengths and accomplishments from prior lifetimes that can be brought forward to increase confidence and effectiveness in the present.

2.    Re-experiencing a happy, successful lifetime; this can bring a sense of balance and peace when undergoing difficult times, fortifying us to work through our temporary difficulties.

3.    Clarifying direction and life purpose by viewing one’s blueprint for this lifetime.

4.    Finding prior lifetimes shared with current loved ones, bringing a great sense of reassurance that we are indeed never parted from those we love.

5.    Accessing the wisdom, peace and guidance that is available from the "interlife," (spiritual realms between lifetimes) where our higher mind and/or guiding ones can assess our progress and give direction to us for our current lifetime.

6.    Strengthening the clarity of the spiritual nature of our existence.

An experience

An experience of one of may patients as narrated by him. Name withheld to protect patient confidentiality

I am writing to share my experience with you and give some comfort to the confused ones. After watching the serial ‘Raaz Pichle Janam Ka’ I got a lot of interest in knowing my pichhla janam and see if we can really see color videos about our past. I was more interested to know if this was all true. I read a lot of forums topics and discussions on this topic. I did a some search of past life regression therapist in Delhi before going to Delhi in August 2010. I talked to about 8 therapists and exchanged emails. I finally got appointment from Dr. Indrani Barooah (9810062858, 011-23782712), 6 Tilak Marg, Delhi. She only charged me Rs. 1000 for the whole sessions (2 hours). The others were asking about 1500 to 2000 for each session.

Now. let's talk about my experience. I was an owner of a casino in London. I lived from 1900 to 1970. I was in Shimla from 1900 to 1930 then went to London. I was shot dead in my own house in 1970. In this life, I was born in 1972.

First, Dr. Barooah explained me about the process. I was first hypnotized. It was my first experience to feel my body totally numb. She asked me to go to the life that was related to the Lord Shiva temple I used to see in my dreams. She took me to my past life and asked me to go to the age of 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40, 50 and last day of my life.

First, When I went back, I was 20 year old, from there I went to 5 year and moved ahead. One interesting thing I saw is that I had the same mother in my past life. I also saw the same temple that I used to see in my dreams as a child. One thing I can confirm that I was not making up things when she was asking me questions and at the end everything made sense including years, people I saw in London, etc.

In the starting 5 minutes, I was thinking that it is fake and I am imagining and answering her questions, but later I really started seeing true videos of my life and was really amazed. It was exactly the same process that they follow in raaz pichhele janam ka.

Benefits of PLR

Past life therapy has a myriad of benefits. Memories revealed from a past life allow individuals to alter their perspectives on their current lives. This therapy helps people to understand who they are, learn how past life events have affected present life circumstances, and to offer insight into hidden conflicts so that repeating patterns may be stopped.

Awareness created through regression therapy allows mental, physical, and emotional release. Patients may let go of deep-seated emotions, fears, and guilt that often result in the relief of such problems as chronic pain, alcoholism, jealousy, arthritis, claustrophobia, agoraphobia, migraine headaches, weight problems, insomnia, obsessive/compulsive behaviors, chemical dependencies, depression, and sexual dysfunctions. The release of fear and other painful emotions strengthens will and self-esteem and fosters forgiveness towards others and towards the self.

Throughout their lives individuals may have felt negativity towards certain persons or places. They may be averse to particular foods, be prone to illness or disease, or have recurring dreams. This may be the result of a past life connection. By becoming aware of the roots of these conditions the negativity is released and healing often occurs.

Past life therapy is usually undertaken to reach the source of problems or conflicts in the current life. The purpose of a regression session is to release guilt, fears, and other emotions tied to past events in order to make appropriate decisions in the present lifetime and gain an understanding of present relationships.

Karma and PLR

Past life therapy is a therapy in which an individual is regressed to past lives in order to heal and resolve ailments and situations from the current life. It is is based on the ancient belief of reincarnation. The foundation of Hindu philosophy, reincarnation dates back thousands of years. It is the notion that the soul is eternal and incarnates again and again, retaining all the knowledge of events that occur during each lifetime.

Karma is an important component of reincarnation. It is a Sanskrit word meaning action. The basis of karma is that every action has a reaction: cause and effect. Each lifetime is lived in order to resolve unwholesome actions in previous lifetimes. The circumstances of each life are determined by the growth and progress achieved in a past life. According to this theory, a person's actions in one lifetime determine the conditions, situations, relationships, environment, and opportunities of the next life.

The actions carried out in one lifetime are often carried through to the next life. For instance, someone who committed a murder in a previous life may encounter a lifetime in which he will have to deal with anger and violence. Although "past lives" began as a religious concept, since the 1960s it has been used in the therapeutic community to help people reframe current issues in their lives that are blocking their health and well-being. Whether or not there are past-life experiences and memories is debatable and ultimately unprovable. They may be metaphors of the mind. Even so, they can serve as useful processes for bringing understanding and resolution to present conflicts.

In the past life regression, the patient may recognize people from her current life. According to the karmic theory, souls who are closely related in one life will meet in another. Often people who bond together in this lifetime, such as family, lovers, or friends, have also been together in previous lives. The significance of meeting again is to resolve karmic issues from other lives in order to promote growth and healing.

Past lives generally are not experienced in a sequential fashion. This is due to the karmic understanding that past lives are revealed at a time when the individual will benefit most by the lesson learned through the review.

Past Life Regression and PTSD

Past-life regression is a therapy where people probe into what was their past to find answers to questions plaguing them in the present. Our past life selves are not only characters in past dramas, but they also live within us today as sub-personalities. We feel their emotions; manifest their talents; think their thoughts; are limited by their fears and perpetuate their quandaries. We often act this out without consciously knowing we are doing so, simply because we are unaware they exist within us. The most problematic past lives for us today, are the ones that have unresolved trauma or ‘unfinished business.’

Traumatic or sudden deaths is one such instance which, quite often leave a portion of the consciousness in shock and earthbound. The biggest shock to a soul that dies suddenly is that it often doesn’t know it is dead.

Spirits that die suddenly often do not find their way to light on their own. It is not that loved ones and beings from the higher realms do not come for them, but the spirits state of shock often blocks them from even noticing that help is there. Past Life Regression techniques bring the spirit back to its point of death to break the trance of shock and dissociation. In PLT a therapist puts clients in a state of deep relaxation, in an attempt to delve into their past and find clues about their previous lives. Uncovering a traumatic event in a previous incarnation these problematic inner characters are brought to the forefront of consciousness and worked with to bring resolution and healing to their complexes, so that they cease to affect the current life.

Post-traumatic stress disorder is an anxiety disorder which may result from such a traumatic experience.

Some of the symptoms of PTSD are:
1. A recurrent re-experiencing of the original trauma in the form of repetitive memories, nightmares or flashbacks.
2. Being in a state of hyper-arousal or hyper-vigilance
3. Blackouts, memory loss, denial or amnesia around the original trauma
4. Spaciness and dissociation
5. Fear or avoidance of others
6. Emotional numbness or deadness
7. Development of phobias and irrational fears

PLR & Anxiety

Anxiety a psychological and physiological state and associated with uneasiness, apprehension, fear, or worry, is a generalized mood condition that can often occur without an identifiable triggering stimulus.  Anxiety may occur without a cause, or it may occur based on a real situation but may be out of proportion to what would normally be expected. Severe anxiety can have a serious impact on daily life.

Anxiety attacks occur when there is an irrational and illogical amount of fear flowing through the mind.  Logically, one knows there is no reason to be in so much fear, but no matter what, one begins to sweat and panic, the heart beats rapidly and mind fills with terror.

More often than not, Past Life Regression Therapy can heal, curing you at the  root of this anxiety.

How is it possible to even connect with a memory from another lifetime?  To answer these questions, first it’s important to understand a bit about the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind stores all our life’s memories, experiences, thoughts, feelings and beliefs, even memories from other lifetimes. Past Life Regression Therapy assists in confrontation with  the situation of the past thereby helping in beginning a slow but informed process of healing of the present day symptom.

PLR & Depression

Depression a state of low mood and aversion to activity, may make a persons feel sad, anxious, empty, hopeless, guilty, irritable or restless. It may lead to loss of interest in activities that once were pleasurable, of appetite, or problems in concentrating, remembering details or making decisions. The depressed person may also contemplate suicide. Insomnia, fatigue, loss of energy, or digestive problems that are resistant to treatment are some of the symptoms that may also be present. It can be termed as a malady that usually has a reason in the emotionality and yet medical science does not have too much of a solution this.

Past life Regression makes it possible to explore reasons for depression and to resolve them.

I had a patient who was in love with a girl and wanted to marry her. His father however, was totally against this relationship. To resolve the issue, he tried to reason with his father and when that did not work, tried to break his relationship with the girl where again he failed. Due to this situation, his being torn between two people he equally loved, he was very depressed.

On being regressed, he found himself as the son of a rich father who was a horse breeder. When he was 20, he falls in love with a girl from another community and here also, his father is dead against the relationship. Uncannily, this girl has the same looks as the girls with whom he is in love in the present life.

His father gets him married to another girl and they have a son. He subsequently dies at the age of 80 much after the death of his wife. Being able to establish a link and break it in his previous life, he was able to resolve his current life problem and his depression.

PLR & Suffocation

Fear of suffocation during sleeping is a phobia that affects a number of people the world over. These sleep panic attacks could be a continuation of the panic disorder experienced during a previous life time. Sleep apnea occurs when breathing during sleep becomes shallow or there are pauses which disrupt the regular rhythm and means there is not enough oxygen reaching the lungs. These pauses can number from 5 to 30 per hour and cause a shift from deep sleep into light sleep.  Each time breathing stops, the level of blood oxygen drops and the heart rate increases which leads to a sudden release of stress hormones. None of which is conducive to a good night's sleep and all of which could cause the sudden panicked awakening characteristic of nocturnal panic attacks.

Past Life Regression therapy helps in retrieving memories of previous lives through hypnotherapy.  By reliving or discovering previous experiences or traumas, a person can identify the origin of his/her problem, understand them, and finally let go forever.

For example, a lady came to see me who used to get up every night feeling suffocated. When regressed to a past life, she found herself as a man who was constantly mistreating his wife. When he was about the age of 60 years, the wife fed up with him finally gathered up the courage and suffocated him to death with a pillow during his sleep. After realizing the origin of her fear, she was able to sleep better without getting up constantly as she was doing till now.

PLR & Phobias

While history provides only limited accounts of PLR, the Hindu scholar Patanjali has written a great deal about it. He says the soul is always burdened by its Karma or past life memories. According to Patanjali a subject will revisit those memories to uncover issues in his/her present life with a technique called “Prati-Prasay” – or reverse thinking – which is currently being practiced in Yoga.

When one considers that reincarnation is accepted in practically all religions including Christianity, Buddhism and Hinduism to name just a few, then we are forced to acknowledge the fact that the belief in past lives is extremely far reaching.  Most people are only curious about their prior lives. The idea of changing anything now is unfortunately a foreign idea to them. Past life, regression therapy or PLR can be a great therapy for making positive change in our present lives.

Past life regression therapy or PLR is based on the principle of re-incarnation. It means that all of us have had many past lives and that life and death are a part of a constant cycle. According to the believers of past life regression therapy a lot of our present problems may result from the cellular memories of our past lives. Phobia attributable to such instances, is an intense irrational fear that is usually caused by an event in the past where fear was experienced. Using our imagination, the stimulus of the phobia (spiders, dogs, heights, flights, water) gets blown out of proportion over time. Phobias are very real for many, many people. They are seemingly unexplainable, irrational fears that can put a person in the grip of terror – sometimes for years. There are times when that fear takes over and dominates a person’s life. Past Life Regression is a means of allowing us to deal with such past issues and issues within this life. We are often holding on to a situation that we had centuries ago and when we recognise the true cause of that phobia we can release it and let it go. For instance a phobia of water could be the result of death by drowning in a past life. Unexplained pains and aches in the body, a variety of psychological problems, negative relationships and sometimes even some diseases could be the result of painful or troubled past life memories.  Past life regression is a means of exploring these possibilities and with the use of hypnosis it allows us to travel back and open doors from one's past life so that  problems that are causing difficulties now can be resolved.

PLR & Pain

Past life regression can benefit those who are looking for reasons for their ailments or problems in life. For example, someone with a bad back pain which cannot be medically explained or cured, might seek answers via the past life regression process. Often, the reasons can be traced back to a past life experience. Regression therapy brings to light the body of experiences the soul has traversed throughout its eternal life journey as an incarnated being   and its effects on your life today.

My most memorable experience was with a 19 year old client who came to me with a chronic back ache off and on for many years. Although he had been to many doctors and specialists, they could find no physical explanation for his pain.

He regressed into one of his lives in which he was a soldier in the year 1941 and recieved bullet injuries in his abdomen with the bullets exiting from his back - the place where the pain was in this life. Subsequently he died due to these injuries in that life..

This client achieved a complete healing of the pain in his back, by sorting out exactly what happened and understanding the nature of his death in that prior life.

Emotional Freedom Technique

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is a form of alternative psychotherapy that manipulates the body's energy field by tapping on acupuncture points while a specific traumatic memory is focused on, in order to alleviate a psychological problem. The principle behind EFT is that negative emotions can cause disturbances in the body's energy field. EFT theory derives from similar principles behind those of acupuncture.

EFT is based on the premise that the body’s energy system is linked to energy circuits, or meridians, that run throughout the body. The state of these meridians is directly affected by your emotional and physical health. By analogy, think of the meridians as rivers. Upsets in emotional or physical health lead to the equivalent of blockages or overflows in the rivers. By setting right the meridians-- i.e. restoring the body’s energy status--, the emotional/physical disorder is righted.

Using EFT involves 'tuning into' the issue and then tapping with ones fingers on specific acupressure points.  For example if you still carry anger towards someone who has hurt you in the past, you would be asked to think about them, and notice how you feel. But you do not have to relive past events. You just have to be aware that the negative feeling is there. Having therefore 'tuned in' to it, you are shown which acupressure points to tap, and what words to say as you do so. (Saying a few things also helps to disperse the emotion from the system).

Having done that you are then asked to think about the person or situation again and check how you feel. Typically you will notice a significant reduction in the intensity of the feeling. If it's not completely gone then the EFT practitioner repeats the process, bringing the intensity down each time until full balance is restored.

Insight into benefits of Past Life Regression

Past life regression has a number of valuable therapeutic purposes.
Cycles of Behavior - Viewing the cycles and patterns of behavior recurring throughout many lifetimes grants       greater perspective on our unique quirks,     habits, struggles, fears, choices, hopes and dreams.
Physical Healing - In many cases, the health issues we experience in this life have roots that extend into other lifetimes. For this reason, past life regression can provide information important to healing physical symptoms.
Unexplained Pain - Unexplained pains and syndromes, chronic pain and illness, birthmarks, and other health-related phenomena frequently have their     roots in other lifetimes.
Phobias - A regression can also reveal the roots of phobias or other emotional blocks. Sometimes simply having knowledge of the relevant past life experience will be enough to shift the energy, allowing a breakthrough or healing to occur.

There are many other often unexpected benefits including:
Overcoming the fear of death. If you experienced death and knew for certain that you lived on, would you still be afraid?
Staying connected to our loved ones. Experiencing crossing over affirms the continuity of life. One of the hardest things about death is losing the connection and presence of those whom we love. One of my happiest sessions was with a client who had recently lost a child. To experience a former lifetime with this child's soul and to know that they will meet again was so healing for this client. There is so much reassurance and relief to see our loved ones there on the other side and to know we have not truly lost them.
Discovering your inner strength. All souls have lived at least a few (usually many) difficult lives. Sometimes we suffer. When you re-experience prior struggles and come to realize that you have survived so much already, current challenges become more bearable. You recognize that "this too shall pass."
Tapping into your inner wisdom. Even in our present life, the intensity of a lesson can fade with time. Revisiting past life events can awaken hard-earned yet buried wisdom. As you connect with and integrate all the pieces of your whole self, you can reclaim greater energy and awareness.
Accessing skills and abilities from former lives. You have transferable skills from your past life. You do not lose the talents developed or awareness gained from former lives. Sometimes these talents can be active at an early age, in which case society might label this child a prodigy or a genius. Other times these skills might lie dormant and can be triggered through reliving past life experiences.

PLR & Hydrophobia

Today I treated a person who was petrified of water bodies, specially drowning.

During her regression, she found herself in Dorchester in England.
In that life, she was the only child of her parents and a very lonely one, as her parents who were extremely rich were always out of the house,

At the age of 16 in total depression, she walked into the sea, trying to die. In her present state she shows emotions of suffocating and drowning.

Fortunately a large wave washes her ashore from where she is she is dragged out by a bystander

She goes on to fall in love at the age of 17 and marries. But her depression and unhappiness continues and about the age of 25 she walks into the sea again and dies.

Introduction

Unlike other regression therapies in Past Life Therapy it is not necessary to believe in past lives. Instead, all that is required is an open mind and the willingness to use metaphor as a way to bring unconscious processes to light.

The regression therapy works on the basis that "the body remembers" and that our physical body today may be carrying memories of trauma from previous lives. The process uses psychodrama to enable clients to release the "unfinished business" that they may be carrying in their body, thus enabling healing to take place more quickly than with other therapies. It is a creative synthesis of Jungian active imagination, psychodrama, spiritual psychology, Shamanic healing, Reichian body therapy and transpersonal psychology.

This can be an effective way to deal with physical pains in the body that seem not to respond to other treatment. It can also deal effectively with phobias of many different sorts as well as with obsessive behaviour and with patterns of behaviour that recur throughout our life.
